I'm moving to Florida, there are a lot of clubs and dog agility trials?
I have been competing in agility with my Sheltie now around a year in the UKC and AKC have recently begun. I'm going to Florida because I'm sick of Midwest and there is not much that keeps me here. I'm not sure where I'm moving, but some of the areas that I am looking at is the area of Fort Myers, Tampa Bay area, Naples, and possibly even Ocean's status as a bit north of Miami. What are some good clubs that I could look into taking classes? I have two years of age, Shetland Sheepdog. Is there any person who Sheltie, maybe I could meet? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated! I am very excited about this movement. Ah, a question more! Since it's so hot in the summer, did you ever do it indoors or tests in Florida are mostly indoors? THANK YOU!
While I do not live Florida (Virginia actually), I competed in trials in Florida. My experience agility-wise in Florida is Central Florida (Orlando area) and Coast area Gulf (south of Tampa Bay). There are a couple of clubs with the trials in Orlando. Yes, there is evidence inside (although the good thing is that you can do training in your backyard during throughout the year in Florida - Can'T do so in the Midwest, and Virginia). I do not think there are plenty of NADAC in Florida in Orlando, but there is significant and the presence USDAA AKC. The last test we went to was for the dog-gone Club Agility that I think is especially USDAA. I've also been in the Orlando Dog Training Club, which focused AKC, does something more than obedience, but has two great agility tests (inside) each year. In my experience, the hot bed "of agility in Florida is on the Gulf coast, especially south of Tampa. You have a lot of clubs and trials generally say "Tampa" but really are between Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bradenton o. If you were to look south of Tampa, north of Sarasota, would have easy access to lots of clubs and trials. In addition, Karen Holik is the I think south of Sarasota. She runs shelties above all, more a marketing and has been in the World Team for the U.S. a lot of years. Karen has a wealth of material Magazine for the implementation and Clean also makes a lot of soldiers. My general opinion - there is plenty of speed in Florida (in terms of evidence and clubs). The excellent quality level, while not as competitive as the Mid-Atlantic, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Texas areas - I know some people who go to trial AKC in Florida because it is easier to get the leverage points for finishing 1st or 2nd of what is in their own part of the country (and is also a good place to go in December or January anyway).
