Dog Carrier Tips
Here are some tips to help you choose the best companion dog for air travel.
• Do not buy a carrier right before you have to use it, buy at least a week before hand to give your dog time to get used to it. Many people buy dog carriers on their way to the airport and then wonder why your dog is not going to enter in it.
• Do not feed your dog for 6 hours before boarding the plane and keep the water for at least one hour before departure. If your dog has a full stomach could make a trip very uncomfortable for them, or even an accident during the flight.
• When traveling with your dog, be sure to arrive in time to give yourself more time to go through security.
• Make sure you do your research before you travel. Some airlines require you have a form completed by the veterinarian.
• Each aircraft is different, be sure to check your airline for different regulations For animals in the cabin and the extra fees associated with it.
• Not all companies of dog is the airline approved. Not all lines airline approved dog carrier will work on all airlines. Make sure you check out the rules and requirements of the company Air will fly.
Here are the rules of some of the largest companies.
American Airlines: Dogs and cats are allowed in the cabin. Prior arrangements are necessary. Supplement charges. Company maximum size-23 "L x 13" W x 9 " H. You must register at the ticket counter.
Delta Airlines: Prior arrangements are necessary. Supplement charges. Dogs, cats, ferrets, and rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs are allowed. Contact Delta for the overall dimensions of the carrier. Health certificate required. Must register at the counter tickets.
Northwest Airlines: Prior arrangements are necessary. Supplement charges. Dogs, cats, birds and allowed in the cabin. Animals and company must weigh less than 15 pounds. Operator Dimensions of 17 "long x 12" W x 8 "H. necessary health certificate.
United Airlines: Prior arrangements are necessary. Supplement charges. Dogs, cats, and birds are allowed. Maximum vehicle size: 17 "x 10 "W x 10" H. Health certificate required.
U.S. Airways: Prior arrangements are necessary. Supplement charges. Dogs, cats, birds and are allowed. Health certificate required. Company maximum size-17 "long x 16" W x 10 "H (soft face) and 17" L x 16 "W x 8 "H (hard side)
Continental Airlines: dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and animals. Supplement charges. Maximum dimension of the operator 16 "long x 12" W x 8.75 "H. necessary health certificate.
Southwest Airlines: Pets allowed. Supplement charges. Airline count as hand luggage. Must register at the ticket counter. Operators can be hard or soft face.
Frontier Airlines, Champion Air, Maxjet Airways: No pets allowed in the cabin. Service animals allowed.
