Christian patron saints of dogs
I've always loved animals, especially dogs. I've had four dogs in my life and each
brought them a force different from my life ... not even mention the unconditional love.
If humans were like dogs, the world would be a much better place.
With this in mind, I began to wonder if angels had watchdogs looking over them.
Although I was always sure that they did, I wanted to know if there were any Saints as
recognized by the Catholic Church that helps especially dogs. Here is what I found:
St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals:
Born in northern Italy (in Assisi in Umbria) in 1181 and named Giovanni (John) after
John the Baptist, the saint was born as the son of a wealthy merchant fabric, Pietro
Bernardone. Johns father was French and as such, he called Francesco
(Francisco), the little Frenchman. As a youth, Francis was extravagant, carefree
loved by all. It was a natural leader and growing up he became the leader
a group of young people who spent their nights at parties wild and were
accustomed to vice.
Francisco wanted to be a gentleman. He had his chance when Assisi declared war on its long
time enemy, Perugia. Most of the troops of Assisi died in the fight, however, Francisco
was taken prisoner (because of their wealth) and requested a rescue. After one year in
dungeon in Perugia, Francisco ransom was paid and he was released. Still wanting to be
a gentleman with all the glory attached to that title, a request by the gentlemen of the Fourth
Crusade gave him a chance to dream. Adapts decorated armor
gold, and boasted that he would return a prince. But within a day trip
Assisi, who had a dream in which God told him to go home, and despite the humiliation
people the people, he did return home. But Francis has not changed overnight. He did
begin to spend more time in prayer, went to a cave and wept for their sins. But there
remained a business to run ... I could not give themselves totally to God.
But on a pilgrimage to Rome, that all changed. Resigned her dress and put on a rich
beggars clothes and began to minister to those suffering from the Black Death.
After the pilgrimage to Rome, at the age 26, while praying in a chapel of San Damiano
which had fallen into ruin, he heard an image of Christ say fix my sagging
Camera of Representatives. Francis took this literally, and began the necessary repairs to the small chapel.
However, Francisco had no money "and thus pay for the restoration, he stole
bolts of cloth from their parents store. This angered his father as

humility and discipline. Within 15 years, Francis was the leader of the Friars Minor 5000

Francis is remembered not so much as religious organizations, but as an example charismatic
and a compassionate soul for the unusual. It is believed that he preached sermons
poultry and entered into a treaty of peace with a wolf for the wolf no longer
terrorize a village. In 1224, he was given the stigmata (the mark of five Christs
injuries) in own body. He died in 1226 at age 45 and is enshrined in the Basilica of
Assisi that bears his name ... though much would have preferred a tomb poor. He is
considered the founder of all Franciscan orders.
Dwynwen St. (Dwyn) Tolentino-Patron Saint of sick animals:
Dwyn was a century of 5 single rich Wales
family. His father was a Welsh saint and king, Brychan Brycheiniog of Bréchon. It
Love had problems, however. The story is Dwyn that fell madly in love with a Welsh
Dafodrill Maelon prince named. A marriage was planned but did not. As St.
Dwyn distanced himself from Maelon, her bitterness toward her became unbearable.
Heartbroken, Dwyn accepted a heavenly concoction offered by an angel who appears to
her in a dream to calm her anxiety. However, the angel could not say that the effect of
Maelon Potion, which was turned into stone (or ice, according to other accounts)
was administered once. Dismayed, Dwyn requested and received three wishes
the angel
That Maelon be restored to life
True lovers of all those who invoke his name either meet the desires of their hearts or
recover quickly from disappointment
That does not want to marry or
Dwyn committed his life to God and founded a monastery in what is now Llanddwyn
island, just off the Island of Angels. Within this abbess, is a miraculous spring
(Ffynnon Dwynwen) where, from the movement of fish, the adept can say
future. An interesting fact, water does wonders for sick animals. Over time
Dwyns name was invoked to heal the sick and distressed animals, a tradition that has
survived until today.
The ruins of the chapel Llanddwyn, a 16th century church of the Tudor, can still be seen.
Moreover, his name lives in the city of Porthddwyn and a church dedicated to her
can be found in Cornwall.
San Roque-patron for dog lovers:
St. Roch was a French Saint was born in 1293. He enjoyed a rich and privileged young as
the son of the governor of Montpellier. However, he was orphaned at 20 and decided
give all his possessions to the poor and gave the city government to his uncle. He
then began a pilgrimage to Rome disguised as a mendicant pilgrim where she cared for the
victims of the plague / Black Death, where success was often miraculous results
with these victims.
Roch became infected with the same fever, Piacenza and he stopped his ministry
I knew it would be contagious to others. He went into the forest to die alone, but was
befriends a dog (and later the teacher), who bring food snatched their
teachers (Gothard) table. Roch, finally recovered, thanks to nutrition and
company offering the dog and his master and he decided to return to Montpellier.
Due to his illness, no one recognized and was thrown into prison as he
thought he was a spy. There Roch died at the age of 32 after 5 years in prison
1327. Once dead, was finally recognized by a family member with an X-shaped
birthmark on his chest and his family for his death just horrible. He was given a
public funeral and numerous miracles attested his sanctity.
In 1414, during the Council of Constance, the black plague was rampant, Los Padres
the Council ordered to public prayers and processions in honor of San Roque and immediately
the plague ceased. San Rochs relics were taken to Venice in 1485 where he still
revered. RSV letters (Viva San Roque) were once enrolled more than most
European doors as protection against the plague.
San Antonio de la Santa Great Patron of Pets:
Antonio was born in Memphis, Egypt in 251 to a wealthy family. When I was 20 years
old, his parents died and left to care for his unmarried sister. After listening to the words
Jesus instructions sell what you have and give to the poor as a reward
would treasures in heaven, he gave up his wealth to the poor and needy. Also
placed her sister in the care of a group of Christian virgins, similar to a convent nuns. It was

sought his advice heard from outside. The devil began again to torture Anthony,
only this time the ghosts were in the form of beasts, lions, snakes and scorpions.
But Anthony would laugh at them, invoke the name of God and ghosts turn
smoking.
Over time, he did leave the fortress with the help of villagers tearing a wall down.
Although everyone expected who were consuming their isolation or insane, left
healthy, serene and bright. He was hailed as a hero and his fame began to spread.
Anthony returned their strength after confirming the followers of the Christian Fayum
faith. I wanted to be in isolation again, but people continued to seek his counsel, including
The Emperor Constantine. Anthony Constantine did write the letter from him a blessing and
praying for peace and security of the church and empire. Anthony realized that all

the Desert Fathers.
These four saints are those that protect the dogs healthy and affected. Good to know
giving these creatures are treated in a manner heavenly. I hope you enjoyed this
