Your Heart: The most abused organ in your body
Your heart is an amazing organ. It's better than 35 million times a year work harder than the leg muscles of a sprinter, and pumps 2000 gallons of blood per day. If it stops, will probably die within minutes, and many or even give us about as much attention as an old shoe.
Heart disease is truly an epidemic in the United States. It remains the number one nation murderer, one of every 5 deaths from coronary heart disease (CHD). In the United States, approximately 1.2 million heart attacks each year, with about 40% of them causing death. About 70 million Americans (almost 25% of the entire U.S. population) suffer from some form of heart disease and not even know.
Heart-related problems fall into the category of diseases of lifestyle. This means that most are preventable and often caused by our own decisions in life. Genetics play a role in determining who is most likely of developing cardiovascular disease, but our own negligence is the biggest culprit. Poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol ... All these will increase your chances of heart problems.
But good news: Even if you have had a heart attack and survived, there are steps you can take to improve the health of your heart.
The first thing to understand is that the exact cause of heart disease is not known. In fact, probably not a single cause. That's why it's important to take a holistic approach to preventing heart disease. You can not change your diet and continue to smoke. Or stop smoking, but use the treadmill as a clothes hanger. Here are some small changes you can do to take care of his heart:
1. Throw your fryer. Simply change your cooking methods can take a great amount of fat in your diet. Instead of frying foods, try grilling, steaming, or baking in place. If you need pan-fry, a small amount of olive oil is better for you than cooking spray.
2. Eat fresh food natural. Refined (white) sugar and saturated fats are their enemies. Instead of fat chips or microwave popcorn, try unsalted nuts or raw vegetables. Eat whole, fresh fruit instead of candy or chocolate. Eat whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat bread and pasta. This gives you more vitamins, more minerals and more fiber, and do much more than just your heart.
3. Exercise regularly. You do not have hours to do two sessions in the gym. Only 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week is enough to keep a happy heart. And exercise does not have to mean buying expensive equipment. Walk bike with your kids, walk the dog, and even the stairs instead of the elevator all count.
4. Quit smoking. Do not use snuff products, either. By now we all know about the myriad problems that smoking can cause, so I will not bore you with the details. Just quit smoking - is necessary.
5. Limit your intake of alcohol. Some studies suggest that moderate amounts of some alcohol can be good for your heart, but excessive drinking is not good for nothing. If you must drink, drink responsibly and moderately. For women this means no more than 3 drinks on any given day, and no more than 9 per week. For men, the limit is 4 drinks per day and no more than 14 per week.
6. Take a nutritional supplement designed for the heart. Sometimes it can be difficult eating right and exercising all the time. Or maybe you are at an increased risk of heart disease due to a family member has already been beaten by it. Whatever the case, try a heart-healthy supplement like Lipistat . Just remember: The omega-3 fatty acids (also known as "fish oil") are not the only ingredient in a supplement of high quality. Look for a supplement containing the proper amount of omega-3 fatty acids, plant sterols (or phytosterols), and vitamins E and B6.
Your heart is too important to the abuse with poor diet and exercise do not. Take care of her now and it will take care of you in the coming years.
