The Fine Art of the Handshake
Your handshake says a lot about you. It can convey confidence, warmth and honesty, or may indicate weakness, uncertainty and disinterest. Either way, it sends a subtle but powerful message about who you are, that is not lost on potential buyers. Use these tips to ensure your handshake sends the right signals, and creates a good impression on potential clients and customers.
• Do not handle supply. A handshake should be firm but not too forceful. Beware the unconscious tendency to pull the other person toward you while shaking. This can be interpreted as aggressive, and the prospect of resistance is going to go up a notch or two.
• Nothing Wimpy. It may seem painfully obvious, but it is amazing how many vendors offer weak handshakes superficial. This is an important outlet for many customers. Firm friendly and always wins the battle.
• Look 'em in the eye. As you extend your hand, make eye contact and smile. Show some teeth! A warm and sincere congratulations you can do an instant friend and all things being equal, people prefer to shop with friends.
• Get a grip. Never carry another person's fingers. Take your entire hand completely in his, and gently pump two or three times.
