How can i teach my dog to stop barking when someone rings the doorbell.?
Start teaching your dog to greet you at the door. Ring the doorbell and let the dog race to the door barking its fool head off. Nothing happens. Ring again. Same thing. Do this repeatedly until the dog either doesn't go to the door at all or goes and just sits there. Reward that behavior with a juicy treat. Tomorrow do the same thing. You should see it take less time for the disinterested response. When you can get that response consistently for you ringing the bell involve some friends. Have them do the same thing. You will still be the one who treats. Your goal is to teach your dog that the door bell means be quiet and get treats instead of rush and bark.
