dog grooming techniques

I decided to get a Sheltie. Any tips / techniques that can be prepared?
Such as potty training [I'll be living in an apartment], socialization, interaction with the cats, barking quit, or at least stop barking when guests arrive or when I vacuum and preparation / shed? I am not a dog owner first, but it will be my first time with this specific breed, and potty training a puppy too.
LOL .... what is Joey "Dog" Migs talking about?? Anyway, back to your question. I have a Sheltie who is 3 years old. I've had since I was 4 months old. It requires lots of exercise. You have to walk every day since you live in an apt. and have no yard to run around in. He began crate training since the day she has and COMPLETLEY broken home in about 2 months. My Sheltie is brushed "on" every day, but get a good brushing weekends. She is very shy with strangers and takes a while to warm to new people and new things. Once she sees that you are comfortable with the person or things, then she will be fine. My Sheltie barks at the doorbell and cars or people who are passing in front of our house. She goes crazy when I change Garbage bags ... I do not know why but she hates that. She barks when you first start the vacuum, but eventually stopped, but still follows me everywhere. She loves to play ball and play as long as you throw it for her. She follows me wherever I go and get so excited when I get home. She was so easy to train and loves to learn new things. She is the most loving dog I've had and you can not ask for a better partner. Congratulations on your new baby ... I am very happy for you. Added: I forgot to tell my Sheltie gets a great time with my cat. She is concerned for his flock at the time and the cat just slaps her ... hehe ..... and Please do not cut your vocal cords or use a shock collar. That would ruin the sweet temperament characterized by Sheltie.
