Can anyone answer some questions about ducks as pets?
Ok, so I'm thinking about getting 2-3 Cayuga ducks in the spring. Am trying to do my research before that date to make sure it is a good option for us. But still I have some questions. I have read time and again that ducks poop A LOT. So how clean all that shit? Just hose down the yard? I look forward to having them outdoors a couple of hours day to eat flies and misquotes (and other insects they want), but I'm imagining large piles of green runny poop all over everything. Is it "So will it be? My plan is to have a children's pool, so they can swim and wash off. My plan is to have a large kennel with a dog igloo and compensation at the top. If I take the bottom out of the igloo work? Is it just moved to a different place every week and scrub all work a few months, or need to be scrubbed most often? I would put some straw in the winter there. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks
Ducks can be territorial. Ducks are evil. LOL! To answer your questions: cleaning depends on the facilities that you have. If you are going to be on the ground, remove and throw away. If you want the hose down, you need some sort of leakage from entering the sewer line or septic tank. Hose down does not make it "disappear." You need a place to go. Leave the bottom in the Igloo. It will prevent rats from digging in it. You will end up cleaning it every week. Ducks are dirty. If you are writing, you need to prevent predators from digging under the fencing. Foxes, raccoons, dogs, cats, mean that humans, opossums dig for a good meal. That means that the cement. That means you can not move. That means you need some sort of drain / septic system.
