Dog size compared with the level of intelligence?
I have a mini Daschund and Mrs. Reception at my vet continues to make comments on how small dogs are dumb and are very difficult to train. She keeps saying that his border collies are smarter and learn faster. I personally do not see the truth in this. Does anyone know if this has been proven scientifically?
Not only is it scientifically proven, it is absolutely ridiculous. There are many reasons a dog can be difficult to train, and intelligence often has nothing to do with it. "It is difficult to train" does not necessarily translates as "stupid." And size is certainly not consider it in any way. Dachshunds, in particular, were bred to be able to make decisions and act themselves, which helped them in their original purpose, badger hunting. Many factors come into play when it comes to how smart a dog is and what race are found in only one of them. To put it very simply, this woman is totally wrong.
