Why wont my dog play with his kong toy??
I just recently got an adopted. I am just in love with him. But there are some problems. First he wont play fetch. I throw the ball and he'll go for the ball, but never pick it up. Next he stoped chewing on his rawhide bone. And lastly I got him a kong toy and stuffed it with some treats,peanut butter, and some of his food, but the most he will do to it is sniff it. So if anyone knows what I can do to fix these little problems that would be great.

PS: My dog is 10 months and is a beagle/shepherd mix
He may need a little time to settle in and get comfortable in your home. Also, since you rescued him, he may just now know HOW to play with toys. A dog that is caged or chained and never given any toys to play with won't know what to do with them the first few times.
As for fetch...it is not a game that dogs automatically know how to play. YOU have to teach them the rules. And some dogs just never really get into it. My younger dog we've had since he was a puppy...and it took him two years to figure out that he should do something with the ball once it hit the ground. He's only ever brought the ball back to anyone once, and even then it was a total fluke. Fetch just isn't a game I've felt the need to work on with him.
