What Loire Valley Historic French Castles If you see a family holiday
The Loire Valley is a spectacular destination for a holiday family. There are many historic castles to see, so many that can be difficult to decide what to see before it is too much for the barefoot children. Each of the castles Loire Valley are listed below have their own special attraction.
I would highly recommend Castle Close Luc and its beautiful park and working models over forty of the amazing inventions Leonardo Da Vinci. Chaumont Castle worth a visit in the summer months for garden festival alone. Many of the gardens are very interactive and highly sensory designed to capture the imagination of children and adults.
Chenonceau Castle is impressive classic and a must. It is a corn for children to get lost in a while. Cheverney Castle has spectacular furniture and a pack of dogs work. Castillo de Chambord is the largest of the castles of the Loire and may rent bicycles or pedal boats to make it more attractive for children. Château de Blois is interesting architecturally because it's like four castles rolled into one. You have the added benefit of being located opposite the Maison de la Magie is a museum honoring the magic of Robert Houdin, who was inspired by Houdini. Children delighted presentations and simulations and the magic show is very impressive.
Castillo de Azay-le-Rideau (minimum visit 1.5 hours)
Hours-9 :30-6: 00 Cost-$ 6.00 for entry and $ 4.00 for an audio guide
The palace itself is fairly large in size than many of the others listed here, but even more beautiful for it. Built in 1515, this is a wonderful example of early Renaissance. In high season there are often evening the son et lumiere show at the castle. It is best to visit this castle in the afternoon in summer so you can enjoy the sound and light show at night.
Castle Chaumont (minimum visit 1 hour 2 hours to the garden party)

Located between Amboise and Blois This castle is well above the Loire River and offers spectacular views. His placement was for strategic reasons, because it was built as a bastion of strength in 1465. He later became a home for royalty and then merely rich. The most famous resident was Diane de Poitiers, the former mistress of King Henry II, who lived in exile here, after Catherine de Medici demanded Chenonceau Castle, when King Henry II died.
Today the interiors represent prodigality of the rich who live here until 1930 when the stock market crisis caused by the last owner to sell the property to the government. Of particular interest are stables more details.
Castillo de Amboise (minimum visit 1.5 hours)
Hours-9 :00-6: 30 Cost $ 7.00 includes a booklet in English. The towers castle of the city and offers a mix of architectural styles as the century of the 17th century Gothic and Classical 16. Ussé Castillo (minimum 1.5 hours)

Construction began in 1455 on the foundations of a century castle 11, and subsequent remodeling occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle has been family owned since the 18th century Blacas and the family continues to occupy one wing. The reasons are several centuries old cedar trees and a family came in 1808.
There is a chapel of 1528 with a sparkling white interior made from local stones, and a garage with vehicles old and a wicker carriage. The castle interior is filled with antiques from the 18th century. Finally, you can climb the tower round to see wax figures representing characters of Sleeping Beauty. If traveling with young children probably will love the fairy scenes of history in the round tower represented by wax dummies.
Castle Villandry (minimum 1 hour for each one of the palace and 1 hour for the garden)
Hours-9 :00-7: 30 Cost-$ 7.50 per palace and gardens, $ 5.00 for the gardens only
This castle was built privately in the 16th century on the former site of a 12th century castle. Today the original castle tower still remains.
The Castle is famous for its magnificent gardens and is considered a must for gardeners. There are 3 different gardens throughout: a Louis XIV-style garden, an ornamental flower garden mosaic, and a water garden with pools and waterfalls. Many people skip the castle and gardens come alone. There is a slide show featuring with photographs of the gardens during the four seasons.
Château de Blois (visit 2-3 hours minimum)
Hours-9 :00-6: 00 Cost-$ 6.00 includes English brochure. You can book a free guided tour also available in English. This castle overlooks the town of Blois and was home to royalty for over 400 years including Francis I and Charles VIII. Parts of the building, consisting of four wings each with a different architectural style joined by a large central courtyard, dating back to the 10th century.
The interiors include luxurious period of concrete pavement design and printed with fleur de lis motifs. One of the highlights is a Renaissance exterior staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci. In summer a light and sound show at night and Wednesday is in English.
Château de Chenonceau (visit minimum 2.5 hours)
Hours-9 :00-7: 00 Cost: $ 8.00-includes a booklet in English. This castle is one of the most amazing of the Loire Valley castles. It was built for Diana Poitiers, the mistress of King Henry II. In 1559, when the king died his wife, Catherine de Medici, forced into exile Diane (The Castle of Chaumont smaller).
After Catherine moved in she had a beautiful gallery added, which is 180 feet long, 18 feet wide, with 18 windows and set in the arches over the river Cher. Originally used as a ballroom, and the First World War and became a hospital for wounded soldiers used to fish through the windows. During the World War II was a means of escape as the castle Sat in occupied territory, but the door at the end of the gallery open to the Zona Franca.

Château de Cheverny (minimum visit 1.5 hours)
Hours-9 :15-6: 45 Cost-$ 6.00, includes English pamphlet. This castle was built in 1634 and has been owned and occupied by the same family since then. Today family members occupy third floor. This castle has the best furniture of the Loire castles open to the public because the family owns Cheverny was very popular with the neighbors and as a result the castle was not stripped of their treasures during the French Revolution.
The current interior is the most complete and luxurious in the Loire Valley. This castle was built as a hunting palace and hunting are still produced today in the field. You can visit the 70 dogs in his kennel, or watch the daily feeding at 5:00 PM. The trophy room proudly displays the horns of more than 2,000 animals.
Be careful because most of the castles have fewer hours in low and mid season, and may even be closed for lunch during that time. On the opposite end of July and August there are usually extended hours.
