dog match tests
Do you think our dog is pregnant?

She seems to have a serious increase of appetite. Also, her nipples are larger and her abdomen seems to be growing as well. She was bred on the 14th, 15th, and 17th. I watched on a reality TV show once, that you can use a pregnancy test to detect pregnancy? Is this true? Of course she will be visiting the vet on day 30 I believe for a scan/xray and check up.

Also, before I am criticized, our dog and the sire both have many titles including CH, a 5 generation pedigree full of champions, are health tested, and we had her temperament and the sires temperament matched up before breeding. This is mostly my moms dog, she has a breed mentor who can answer these questions but since I am only 17 and it's late, I thought I would ask on here.
Thank you Erica! I never heard of those tests before now, perhaps my mom will try one!

There is a pregnancy test for dogs called the Relaxin test but it's a blood test you need to have your vet perform. A human pregnancy test will NOT work on a dog. It detects a HUMAN hormone and is therefore useless on a canine. The Relaxin test can be done after 22-27 days. Other ways to check are palpation which should only be done by an experienced person, through ultrasound, or by x-ray. Palpation can be done accurately at 21-31 days gestation. Ultrasound can be done as early as 25 days but is more accurate around 35 days. X-ray needs to be done no sooner than 45 days and is better at 55+ days. Telling us symptoms won't do any good. A false pregnancy is exactly like a real pregnancy with the exception of puppies being present and pyometra, a deadly uterine infection, can also mimic pregnancy symptoms. You'll just have to go to your vet for help. At 11 days though, you really shouldn't be seeing a growing abdomen. The puppies are microscopic at this point and don't cause any added weight or abdominal growth. Have you increased her food? If so, cut it back to the normal amount. There's no need to increase it until 4-6 weeks depending on the female and the litter size. If you haven't increased her food, I'd take her in for a check up just to be safe. You don't want to risk leaving a possible infection untreated.

It's just the first that came up that had information on the test. There are plenty of other sites that may have a better price if you look around.
