Cutting your dog's nails - no pain - no effort - less stress
Feeling apprehensive when I take the guillotine trimming your dog's nails long? Does your dog hide at the sight of the Clippers and the fight, cry and squirm as you try to cut the nails down without hitting the dreaded fast and causing a bloodbath?
You are not alone. Most dog parents are uncomfortable with cutting the nails of the dog. And ... most dogs are not comfortable on the process too - for good reason.
Our own nail beds - are like a dog - living with a blood supply and nerves. Pinch bed of the nail with pliers and feel the pain.
If you use a scissor or guillotine style Clipper device applies a significant amount of pressure on the nail before it cuts through - especially if the blades are razor sharp. The pressure compresses the living - it is not surprising that dogs are reluctant to experience and those who have been taught to sit obediently still enduring the pain and discomfort.
The quick is actually inside a vein of the nail. We have heard the warnings - cutting nails too and spurts of blood - more pain and stress for you and your dog.
Your dog is not happy but the nails should be trimmed regularly. The nails may grow too long, the distortion of the feet, gait, malaise and ever-present possibility a torn or cracked nail that it may require surgical repair.
There is a better, easier, painless and less stressful method Pedicure perfect dog - the grinding tool. (Commonly referred to as a Dremel tool developed for carpenters)
Many dogs are sensitive to touch in varying degrees and some dogs are finicky about their ears, tails and other body parts, especially feet.
Before reaching the perfect pedicure, start slowly and desensitize your dog to the rumble of the tool and the resulting vibration.
Armed with your dog's favorite character is, start with the management delicate foot, followed with a treat and a "good dog." Increase foot massage is soothing and continue verbal awards. When you feel your dog is comfortable standing with the message, raise the bar a bit and turn the grinder for a few seconds (do not touch the dog with the tool) off and give the dog a treat. Soon, the dog relates the sound of the grinder and the management of the foot with rewards and verbal rewards.
When the dog is more interested in treating the handling of the foot and the sound of the grinder is the time to gently place the tool tip of the nail - more concerned - and move it right next to where the dog is not asking.
