Why doggie outerwear?
For the life of me, I cannot understand why people dress their dogs in outerwear, some as heavy as sheepskin, in 65 degree weather. Dogs have a natural fur coat and it would seem to be harmvul to the dog. I have had dogs when the weather was sub zero and never put a sweater or jacket on them.and they survived just fine. Just look at Alaskan Huskies
I live in Southern California and believe that dogs are dogs and not human. I think that if someone wants to own a dog then they should take into consideration the climate they live in. Having a hairless dog in Chicago is rather silly.
I think the fact that dogs have been so bred down that they don't have the same protection against natures elements as their ancestors had. Eg, Pomeranians (I own one) were sled pulling dogs, but if you look at my 6lb dog, you'll see that only about an army of him would be able to pull a sled.
So when its below freezing I put a little coat on him, especailly because his coat is shorter then usual because he has a fur condition problem for a little while and its taking long to grow in. So in the summer or spring or fall, I don't have a jacket for him, but in the winter I have one. and I have a Santa hat because its cute and he doesn't mind it, if he tried to take it off i would leave it off. Plus it was for a 10 minute intervals. But some dogs need it, like chihuahuas, especially the smaller ones, they are always shivering.
