There is no doubt that most of us will have at one time wished that we had some sort of dog or pet deterrent on us. It's usually when we are out and about and happen to come across an over eager or aggressive dog who is getting a little too close for comfort. Most of the time it is simply because you are getting close to their patch and is relatively harmless though sometimes it can turn nasty if they decide to attack.
If this looks likely then a dog deterrent can make the difference between you getting back home without pieces of you missing or being severely wounded in the process of trying to defend yourself. As the old saying goes 'prevention is better than cure' and this is certainly true when guarding against dog attacks. Fortunately there are some quality products available that ensure that the dog stays away without harming it or yourself in the process. The most popular at the moment is undoubtedly the ultrasonic dog deterrent which is a handheld device which emits a high frequency sound that only the dog can hear. It is uncomfortable for them and they soon back away. It is best used if a dog is coming at you in an aggressive manner and you feel threatened. Most of these devices will also work up to twenty feet so you can be secure in the knowledge that they can't get too close.
Dogs can also be a nuisance if they are persistant in their barking. We've all known of those neighbourhood dogs who just never shut up regardless of it being day or night. Luckily there are now ultrasonic bark deterrents which work simply by sending out high frequency signals over a range of about fifty feet that will make the offending hound think twice about barking incessantly all the time. You can even hang them up in your trees like bird houses, or if you prefer you can keep them in your front or back garden or on your roof as some people do.
If you are having problems with other animals apart from just dogs then a common solution is a motion detecting water repellent. These are particularly effective against any animals coming onto your property and making a nuisance of themselves. Simply place the item in the middle of your lawn or drive and as soon as something comes within a certain distance it will shoot at jets of water at random intervals which will usually be enough to keep most prying animals off your property.
