What type of vehicle would you rent to take on a 4 day, 1 way trip with 2 kids and 2 large dogs?
We are moving from Texas to Maryland. We have 2 toddlers (in car seats) 2 adults, a boxer, a labrador, a parrot in a small Dog Cage, 3 sweater box type tupperware containers, a large midwest type foldable metal dog crate, a medium size cooler and 3 large suitcases.
We are trying to figure out what would be best, a medium size SUV or a mini van. We really wanted a large SUV (expedition or similar) but can't find a rental agency with one available for a 1 way trip.
Also, which agency do you recommend?
Thanks! unfortunatly they don't rent out the large SUV's for one way trips.. we looked everywhere. We have decided to go through Budget as they were $150 less than Alamo who was another $100 less than all of the others.
We are renting a Mini Van.. hopefully it will work out

I agree a full size SUV would be best. For space planning the dogs and the bird each get their own seat. That would mean you need a 7 passenger vehicle. Most med sized SUVs are only 5 passenger while the mini vans may be up to 8.
Invest in a roof rack. Even if you have to buy one in Texas and sell it on Craigslist when you get to Maryland, the freed space inside of the vehicle would be well worth it.
