Why doesn't my dog react to a dog whistle?
I have a dog whistle app on my itouch and when I play it my dog acts like he doesn't hear it. Is he going deaf? Is the app fake? It says at a sertain point I should be able to hear the whistle but I don't. What's up?
No the app isn't fake, I have the same app just for the iphone and my yorkie responds well to it. A couple of things could be it, first its likely that your dog has hearing loss or if he is younger just doesn't care enough about the whistle and ignores is (my dachshund does this) or if you use it too many times (any dog whistle in general) then he will become desensitized and won't listen to it any more, so use it sparingly. If this is the first time you tried it you may need a different method for training. Clicker training works nicely and dogs seem to enjoy it.
And as a response to the above answer, humans can only hear certain frequencies and dogs can hear so much more depending on the breed. If you can't hear it than it usually means its an actual dog whistle, ones that humans can hear as well don't work as effectively because the sound waves don't travel nearly as far.
