An introduction to the properties of sound for music recording

Obviously, if you're reading this article, you have an interest in recording. I am sure that also have some notion of what sound is. Sound is what we hear, right? Well, yes. But there is more than sound. Knowing what sound is and how it works the sound is the key to getting a quality recording. Let's get our feet wet in the sound waves (pun intended).
What is sound?
In short, the sound is acoustic energy, or vibration. More specifically, the sound is vibration propagates through a medium, then is received by our ears and our brain interprets as sound. The reasoning, says that the vibrations are interpreted by our brain as sound is because there is still energy we can not perceive sound as sound (more on that later). For example, while a dog can go crazy when you hear a dog whistle, we human beings can not interpret these vibrations as sound. radio, cell phones, Wi-Fi, microwaves and sound waves RADAR use all that we, as beings Just humans can not hear. So, essentially, when we refer to sound, we really refer to our perception of vibration.
Sound vibrations that spread through the air (or other media for that matter) are in the form of transverse waves. Therefore, it could also mean the sound is really fast fluctuations in air pressure. vibrations of a vibrating body, like a guitar string, push and pull of the surrounding air, creating pressures positive and negative. These waves are produced when the air molecules are closely crashed because they are driven by the vibrating body. The part of the wave positive pressure is, where air molecules collided, is called compression. Negatively down parts of the wave, where the molecules air are separated from each other, are called rarefactions.
The properties of sound
How does a loud sound we perceive is determined by how hard the air is pushed by the vibrating body. The longer the air is pushed, the stronger the sound. Although this is commonly referred to as volume, referring to the acoustic energy is called sound pressure level (SPL). The scale used to measure the sound pressure level is the decibel scale, or dB SPL (more on the other scale of decibels in a future article.)
The pitch of a sound is a function of frequency. What often a vibrating body pushes the air determines how high or low the pitch is perceived. The more frequently the air is pushed, the highest is the pitch. As the air is driven less often, the tone of the bass. So the frequency is expressed as the number of sound waves that occur in time. The scale used is known as Hertz (Hz), which means the sound waves per second number. For example, the letter "A" below "Middle C" on a piano is 440 Hz.
The frequency spectrum is divided into three parts. The audible range for humans is approximately 20 to 20,000 Hz (or 20 kilohertz, abbreviated as KHz). The frequencies below 20 Hz are classified as Infrasonic. All frequencies above 20 kHz are called ultrasound.
ACOUSTICS
Look again into sound to be all about perception. Usually, you do not hear the sound emanating directly from the source. Most often, we hear sound after bouncing off the surrounding walls and other surfaces near and interacts with the environment. We call this noise. Understanding how they influence the acoustic sound, especially the sounds they are trying to burn the better we can get the sound you want without any surprises. Each time a sound wave reflected back into an acoustic space, our perception that the wave changes, especially when you hear the sound coming directly of a sound source, in addition to the reflected waves. For this reason, it is rare that a Pro studio to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in architectural design and acoustic treatment, so that the additional reflections and wave interference are eliminated.
