Invisible / Electric Fences?
I've been looking in the adoption of a puppy and when I look through adoption applications for shelters different host programs, I'm noticing that many say they will not adopt to homes that use an invisible / electric fence as the only means of containment. I have one, I have always used - I teach my dogs on the limits of the yard while they're young, keep a careful watch on them until you can trust them just outside, and just need the fence for the moment have been trained. So why and how long, have been condemned as the source of all evil? I have had numerous dogs and none of them had a problem with this type of fence, none of them were afraid of him, and they all quickly grew to understand and respect it. As So I think I'm just curious why some shelters disapprove invisible / electric fence? Thanks:) By the way I have an invisible fence - it took me a second to realize that the two were different xD
I work with a greyhound rescue and for us it has nothing to do with them being evil or cruel, are simply not effective with some races, including the majority of dogs. Sighthounds are so fast, they can be through the containment system before they even realize they have been caught. It is simply not a sufficient deterrent to the great temptation (a squirrel neighbor's cat, etc.)
