Domestic baby was born Sunday in rabbits large Dog Cage with the mother. One came out. Should I put a dog bed to contain?
Born in the dog kennel is large under a tree in our backyard on the ground. There are large openings in this cage and moved out today and was a great distance in the courtyard - could have been eaten by a hawk. With them were just born on Sunday afraid to go to the real rabbit cage, because I read that if the mother is upset or nervous that I could eat the head off. I wash our bed poodle and I wonder if I should choose from each of them with a cloth and put each one in dog bed with her hair pulled off the mother herself. Would that work? Or should surround the cage with a towel so none of them escape. Again, obviously must be in a rabbit cage, but what I can do now with them being so young and dependent on the mother to nurse them ... I do not want to reject them and the die.
You need a rabbit nest box. And yes we all have to be in the hutch. It is quite true that the management of infants can cause the mother that refuse and, in some cases eating. However, if you rub your hands all over your face and single mothers (especially the nose) whenever you handle the babies that greatly reduces the risk. I use the dog bed. That is not the nest that did for them and the smell is not her or her children and most likely do far more harm than well. By the time the name of "plug holes" angle is going to be your best bet.
