Make a comfortable bed for your dog

If you have a dog that prefers to sleep on top of your quilt (or Doona or dildo) in place of his own dog bed, then this simple project can help. We show you how to quickly and easily your dog its own dog bed comfortable. And with the summer and weight Winter covers the bed make it an all year round!

To Make a pattern

The pattern is very simple - only a square. The important thing is to make sure the bed is big enough for your dog. We are using the same approach used for quilt or Doona cover.

Measure your dog from nose to tail, and then measure the height from the ground to the top of your ears. Take what is the most and add 3 "(or 8 cm). This is the size of your dog bed.

For example, my dog is 23 "tall and 18 cm long, so I'll make a 26" square bed dog for him. (And in centimeters, which is 59cm by 46cm, so my dog bed is 67cm square).

Fabric and Notions

Remember that when you buy the fabric you need two square pieces. Thus, using the above example again, I need fabric measures 26 "by 52" (or 67cm by 1.34m).

Fabric dog bed will depend on the season. For winter, why do bed covered with microfiber cloth or fleece type fabrics. In summer, choose a heavy weight cotton. For those of seasons, you can use corduroy or denim. Just remember fabric must be strong enough to withstand the dog turning around 3 times every night before going to sleep!

For the filling, you can buy quilts, or depending on the size of your dog, even a bed quilt folded in half can do! Shop around to compare prices.

Once you have purchased your padding, check to see what size opening is needed in the bed covered easily insert and remove the filling. Try it on pillowcases, bags cushions and so on, so you can get an idea of what size hole you need. Write this number to some extent you will need it go!

In closing, you have the option of push buttons (the ball and socket type), buttons, velcro or zipper. Choose the one that feels most comfortable, and you think your dog does not rip. Velcro closures are relatively easy in which to connect to your sewing machine, and are far from being so uncomfortable as zippers to secure. Buttons, sewing machines require skilled, but again are fairly easy to do - the only trick with buttons is the creation of his eye. However, these days, most sewing machines have a point automatic buttonhole.

If Velcro or a zipper, you need one that is sufficiently long to cover the gap size calculated above.

Make your dog bed

Depending on the type of tissue, you might want to run a quick zigzag stitch around the outer edge of the piece (or pieces) of fabric, especially if the fabric is likely to "run."

Now, design the fabric and fold in half to form the square, with right sides together. Do not worry if you have your fabric into two parts, just lay one piece on top of each other, with their right sides together.

Now we want to join almost all of the material, but leave enough for a large gap in the above to easily insert and remove the filling, as calculated above. Before starting to sew, we have to calculate the distance along the top edge we have to sew.

Therefore, if you calculate that you need 16 "for the gap (To insert and remove the stuffing), and the material is 26" wide then (minus the 1 "seam allowance on each side) you need to sew in 4" on each end of the top. Explain - We take the width (26 ") and then remove the two seam allowances to both sides (1 "each - leaves us 24") and then deduct the required distance (16 "- leaves us with 8") and then divide by 2, and we need to have the gap centered along the top edge (which leaves us with 4 "on each side).

If your fabric is One Piece

Sew along one side 1 "(or 2 ½ cm) away from the shore and then stops 2" (or 5 cm) from the top, to turn the material around, point along the length calculated above (in my example, was 4 "). Now cut the thread, then do the same with the other side.

If your fabric is in two parts

If the fabric is in two pieces, is much easier. Just decide which side will opening, then the position of the needle 2 "from top edge and the length calculated above from the bottom. Start sewing about 1" from Basically, stop, turn your fabric so you are now ready to sew the side seam, continue sewing until you reach the bottom, and so on, until get back to its upper edge. Just remember that we are allowing a 2 "hem allowance on top, no 1."

Now just I attach the elements preferred end and voila!
