Why are so successful entrepreneurs Darn Luck!
What is your definition of the word "luck"? It is not the definition of Webster Dictionary, its definition. Is it being in the right place at the right time? Choosing the right dealer at a casino? Going to a party where you know your wife current (can be good or bad luck)?
Employers seem to be so lucky, so often. People see their success and attribute much of their good fortune to luck. How lucky they thought the idea would work. The luck of the Irish by the old Doyle, is not it? It was his good fortune to file the patent when it did.
Passengers in the life of the attributes of the destination and positive results to the random luck. "The rays of others, only I never" is one that covers bromide of view of people who are perpetually challenged successfully. The masses who think like this you can not see or understand, that luck has little to do with achieving a true successful entrepreneur.
In business, luck is created. Good luck in general evolves from the capitalization of a risk is involved. Employers are not passengers: are the drivers. The drive to succeed and overcome the obstacles inherent in the attempt to create any new business requires unity, courage and passion. No luck!
This does not mean that luck never happens and is underappreciated. But it can also occur and is appreciated. However, when the fate rears its happy face is usually the confluence hit hard work opportunity! If an entrepreneur accidentally bumps into a funding source while enjoying the morning latte at Starbucks, is this fate or the result of a business proposal that is well seasoned?
My experience is that entrepreneurs create luck, waving a unique blend of qualities personal. Some or all of these traits are evident in the great success of the Wright brothers to Mary Kay Ash. These qualities are the essential ingredients that make true Fortunately occur.
Confidence
Each employer is perpetually afraid. Fear failure is palpable. They can not bear the thought of failure and will do everything possible to avoid it. The need to achieve is demonstrated in a trust that develop in the new product, its ultimate success, and the benefits of your product produce to consumers. Fear stifles confidence. Fear creates inertia. Failures are always afraid to try, to fail, to be criticized. The confidence to succeed in a brutal market is gained through hard work, study, preparation and search for answers to obstacles.
We all have doubts. However, successful entrepreneurs overcome fear and doubt and grow in confidence as their main task. The confidence gained is a key achieving success. No luck.
Learning from mistakes
My first sales manager had only three basic bits of wisdom from a Young starting in a sales career:
- Make all the mistakes you should, once!
- Study and learn from every mistake you make!
- If you are torn between choices, and face an election that could give rise to an error, make the most aggressive!
Everybody makes errors. New Coca-Cola Coca-Cola pulled and almost killed a world famous brand. Merck has been severely damaged by the failure of the prescription drug Vioxx. What Car was the Ford Motor Co. thinking in 1958 when it introduced the Edsel? There was the question of a United States President and an intern. Pete Rose has almost certainly lost his place in the Hall of Fame Baseball gambling.
The key is not the error, but to learn and not repeat the error. The only way to avoid mistakes (almost impossible in all but the more sedentary lives) is not to try anything new. Employers are always going to try. The successful ones aggressive mistakes, learn from their mistakes and this minimizes the likelihood of errors of repetition.
A baseball player is considered a star when a .300 batting average is achieved. This means that failure is a result of 70% of the time they bat. Players hate to make outs. No one can succeed in baseball, unless you request and obtain a psychological comfort zone that allows them to filter and balance errors in decision-outs, and the positive aspects to learn to make a hit.
After a rope is made, players do not can wait for your next trip to the plate to get another chance. This is the thinking of business after an error is made.
Responsibility
One congressman units, while drunk crashes his car hits a parked police car and then claims amnesia. Does your dog always eats task? The NBC television news magazine 20/20 has implemented several programs that show men who use the Internet to organize meetings expected to hold a meeting sex with very young girls. The men, caught in the act, always deny intent, knowledge or responsibility. Senior executives of Global Crossing, Enron and Adelphia their outrageously huge enterprises bankruptcy, costing thousands of employees their jobs and pensions and millions of investors lost their capital investments in these companies. And yet, none of the executives accused knew nothing about what was going on (say) within their companies, while carrying tens of millions of dollars in annual compensation. Responsibility is an endangered quality in a modern world that has embraced the psycho-babble of victimology endless!
If I was the czar of the Earth, and could re-engineer a physical characteristic of the human body, it would be this: the palm of the left hand of every human being would have a small mirror permanently attached. And every day, several times a day, we could look in the mirror and the reflection of a man or a mouse. The Successful people, including all fine entrepreneurs I have known, assume full responsibility for all decisions they make. Assigning blame to someone else or a condition outside is a diversion.
As human beings we have the unique ability to make decisions, free will and the ability to reason. These tools are denied any other form of life. A lion or a fruit fly, operates only in a pre-programmed instinct. A lion is not responsible for what kills. It is in the earth to kill. However, if a person kills, only they are responsible.
Employers assume full responsibility for its success and failure. The fate of many to subscribe to a successful entrepreneur is actually a manifestation of the ability to make rational decisions and abide by the consequences of those decisions.
Perseverance
Imagine a child, and dreamed of playing professional football player, and suffering 10 years of humiliation, disappointment and failure in trying to achieve this goal. After a career in the average high school, playing in a rural village without exposure, not offered a scholarship to one Division-1 NCAA school. Play four years largely mediocre in a small school in Iowa after graduation, National Football League draft and not a test is not offered free agent. He will work in a supermarket and catches with a team from the Arena Football League. Pay Per Play is $ 400.
Interestingly, his growing success in the Arena Football League for several seasons, his name at least a point in the conversation in an office of the NFL. He is explored, which is believed to be a bit too old, but maybe worth a test in NFL Europe. After a very successful season in Europe, is invited to a training camp of the NFL. The camp began, he was listed as the quarterback in the fifth team's depth chart. An injury to a quarterback and then another quarterback injury, and now third in the lineup, has realized his dream. He is signed to a contract.
Now the story could end here. He is a true NFL quarterback. Goal achieved. However, our quarterback has kept fighting and now he has made a team that wants to play, and knows, knows that going to be a star if given a chance. It needs another season, the injuries a little more and put his shot. At the age of 28 leading his team to a Super Bowl championship, is the League's Most Valuable Player, was named All-Pro and signs a multimillion-dollar contract.
Kurt Warner, our quarterback, is the most unlikely of success football. Each college team, all scouts and pro teams all lost in it. In a sport where players are ranked computer, classified, tested, weighed, timed, interviewed and surveyed high school on, not an evaluation rated him a potential player. And yet, is one of the best players in professional football.
Persistence can not be taught. Some people stop at the first sign of trouble. Edison tested more than 1000 versions of the bulb before he perfected his invention. Kurt Warner would not listen to the experts saying that to proceed with their work life and work not include football. He made his own luck through the work, sweat, sacrifice and perseverance.
