Pet Portrait Photography – Tips for your own masterpiece
For some animals, a good photograph representing their best qualities comes naturally, while for others it can be frustrating elusive. Many people choose to have professional photos taken, and although this may take a marvelous picture, with some preparation and patience may be able to achieve similar results yourself. After all … your four-legged companion is a member of his family, and more known of their unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies better?
Here are some simple yet effective suggestions that I found to offer good results …
The most important factor in pet photography is lighting. Often the best way out is done in daylight, so try to experiment with this even if your pet is an indoor pet only. Remember to avoid direct sunlight as this can alter the color natural – a sunny day is overcast but perfect. Do not use the flash as this can cause red eyes and distort true color and shading. An exception to this, however, if your pet has a black coat, in which case a flash or strong sunlight can actually bring out shading and texture that can be lost in photos taken under conditions of lighting.
Next to consider is posing and positioning. Note that it is more effective to take pictures of their level, instead of having your pet looking you, which can distort the natural shape. Do not make them get to you. Instead, go to where it is a smile.
It is understandable that many pets have no patience to "photo shoots and find it difficult to sit still. If your pet is having trouble concentrating, a good idea to have favorites noises or movements their attention. Cameras can be distracting for some animals, so if you can not get your pet to behave normally, try to have someone present to divert attention.
Above all else, remember to have fun and not in a hurry. Patience is a virtue, certainly when it comes to taking a picture Pet spectacular. Good luck!
