Dog does not bark. How to teach well.?

I have a black Lab that is a little over a year old. She is a very good dog. The problem is that not bark at strangers or animals. I live in the mountains and I would like her to let us know if there is a stranger near our house, or a bear. But she stays quiet. Is there any way to make it a better guard dog?

Not really. You can teach a dog to bark on command, but really can not teach a dog to the attention of the outside world if they do naturally. She's a really nice dog, you can not do something that its not is. Maybe you could get a second dog, one that is more vigilant?
